Lewisia is a compact flowering perennial known for its fleshy evergreen rosettes and colourful clusters of star-shaped flowers. Blooms can appear in shades of pink, coral, orange, yellow and white, often with beautiful striped or blended colouring.
Native to the mountainous regions of southwestern Oregon and northwestern California, Lewisia cotyledon is adapted to rocky conditions where excellent drainage is essential. Despite its delicate appearance and succulent-like foliage, it is a temperate perennial rather than a tropical houseplant.
Light: Full sun to partial shade. Provide plenty of bright light for strong growth and flowering.
Water: Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Temperature: 10°C–24°C, prefers cooler growing conditions and tolerates cold once established.
Bloom: Produces colourful flowers primarily from late spring into summer
Growth: Forms a compact rosette of fleshy leaves with flowering stems rising above the foliage.
Maintenance: Excellent drainage is essential. Remove spent flowers as needed and avoid allowing the crown or roots to remain wet, particularly during cool weather.
