Peace Lily
Spathiphyllum sp.
Family: Araceae
Common Names: Peace Lily, Spathiphyllum
Plant Type: Tropical flowering perennial
Best For: Homes, offices and lower-light indoor spaces
Pet Friendly: No, toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.*
Available Size: 6" nursery pots
Peace Lilies are popular tropical houseplants known for their glossy green foliage and elegant white blooms. Their distinctive flowers consist of a white spathe surrounding a central flower spike called a spadix.
Adaptable and relatively forgiving, Peace Lilies are especially useful for indoor spaces that don't receive intense sunlight. Although they tolerate lower light, brighter indirect light generally encourages stronger growth and more frequent flowering.
Care
Light: Low to bright indirect light. Avoid intense direct sun.
Water: Keep lightly moist, allowing the upper soil to begin drying between watering.
Temperature: Prefers 18°C–27°C. Protect from cold drafts.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity.
Bloom: Produces white spathes and may flower repeatedly in suitable conditions.
Growth: Upright and clump-forming with broad, glossy leaves.
Maintenance: Remove spent blooms and yellowing foliage as needed.
Plant appearance, bloom colour and size may vary.
Each plant is a living specimen and naturally unique.
* Peace Lily is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or ingested. Insoluble calcium oxalate crystals can cause burning and irritation of the mouth, drooling, vomiting and difficulty swallowing. These exposures are generally not considered life-threatening, but severe irritation can rarely cause swelling that interferes with swallowing or breathing. Contact your veterinarian if ingestion occurs and seek immediate veterinary care if your pet has difficulty breathing or swallowing.
