*COMING SOON* Poinsettia Red
Euphorbia pulcherrima
Family: Euphorbiaceae
Common Names: Poinsettia, Christmas Star, Christmas Flower
Plant Type: Tropical flowering shrub
Best For: Holiday displays, tabletops and bright indoor spaces
Pet Friendly: No, toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.*
Available Size: 4”and 6" nursery pots
Poinsettias are classic holiday plants known for their brilliant red bracts surrounding clusters of tiny yellow-green flowers. Their rich colour and full foliage make them a favourite for Christmas decorating, centrepieces and seasonal gifting.
Native to Mexico and Guatemala, Euphorbia pulcherrima naturally grows as a woody shrub. The colourful red portions aren't actually flowers, they're modified leaves called bracts that develop their colour in response to shorter winter days.
Care
Light: Bright indirect light. Some gentle winter sun is beneficial.
Water: Water when the upper soil begins to dry. Avoid soggy soil.
Temperature: Prefers 18°C–24°C. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity.
Bloom: Colourful bracts surround clusters of tiny yellow-green flowers.
Growth: Compact and bushy when grown as a potted plant.
Maintenance: Keep away from cold windows and heating vents and remove damaged leaves as needed.
Plant appearance, bloom colour and size may vary.
Each plant is a living specimen and naturally unique.
* Poinsettia is mildly toxic and irritating to cats and dogs if ingested. Its milky sap can irritate the mouth and stomach and may cause vomiting. Despite its reputation, Poinsettia is not considered highly toxic or typically life-threatening to pets. Contact your veterinarian if significant ingestion or concerning symptoms occur.
