Growing with Lac La Biche

Last week we had the opportunity to attend the Lac La Biche Tourism Kick-Off to discuss the future of tourism in our region and how local businesses, growers, makers, and community members can help shape and support it moving forward.

As newer members of the community ourselves, it was and incredibly meaningful experience.

We were so grateful to meet so many passionate people from fellow growers and makers to municipal leaders, tourism representatives, and community organizers, all excited about the future of Lac La Biche and the potential this area holds.

We left the meeting with pages of ideas, inspiration, and a growing appreciation for the place we now call home.

Ashley and her family are coming up on their first year in Lac La Biche, and I have been here just over half a year, but we both agree that we’ve rarely felt so welcomed and supported by a community before. It’s been incredibly encouraging as new business owners and growers starting out.

One of our favourite moments from last weekend at the Bonnyville Farmers' Market was seeing people excitedly picking up the Lac La Biche stickers and pins we received from the kick-off to hand out while sharing stories about fishing trips, camping weekends, hunting, and summers spent in the area. It was a reminder of how many people hold memorable connections to this region and how special this community really is.

We’ve also been listening closely to the feedback, ideas, and encouragement we’ve received from customers and community members over these first few markets. A lot of what people have shared with us has already started shaping the way we think about the future of the Marigold Market and the ways we hope to grow in the years ahead.

There’s still a lot to learn, and we’re very much aware that we’re still only in our first season, but we’re excited about what’s ahead, both for our little farm and for the community growing around it!
